New initiative called ideas for good launch by Australian visionaries

In an effort to showcase how telecommunications is providing help and support for a number of serious national problems a group of leaders within the community have launched a new initiative.

A brand new initiative has recently been launched by six community leaders that will show how a number of national issues like illiteracy, diabetes and safety online are being helped with the use of telecommunications.

Swing in voting by the IT industry blamed on the Net filter

A recent survey has shown that when the IT industry goes to the polling booths its’ voting could go against the Rudd Government because of the mandatory broadband internet filtering scheme the government is currently involved in.

A number of serious issues have been raised regarding the mandatory internet content filtering scheme from the Federal Government including the possibility of future governments abusing this filter, the blocking of legitimate websites and information, and the creation of a false impression that children accessing the internet are safe. The survey results show that 92.6 percent of all the recipients that responded were against the governments filtering scheme.

Australians warned over online scams

With increased broadband access having resulted in an increase in online scams the Australian telco Telstra has issued advice to try and protect broadband users from online scams.

Over recent years a rising number of Australians have signed up to broadband services, and this has provided users with a wide range of benefits opening up a whole new virtual world that can benefit users in many different ways. However, the increased take up of broadband services has also given more scope to fraudsters, and in line with the increased take up of broadband services there has been an increase in the number of online scams in operation.

Productivity gap in Australia continues to widen

Recent data has indicated that the productivity gap in Australia is continuing to widen, but there is evidence that deployment of technologies such as higher speed broadband and improved networks could help to bridge this gap.

Communications giant Telstra has recently released data that shows how the productivity gap in Australia in continuing to widen. The productivity gap refers to the difference between expectations and actual output when it comes to productivity, and this gap has increased from twenty nine percent last year to thirty four percent this year.
