4G: Will it spell the end for home PCs?
Some people believe that emerging technology in the world of Internet access could spell the end for the humble home computer, but not everyone agrees with this.
With 4G technology well on its way to being rolled out many casual and business users of mobile internet services are looking forward to faster speeds and increased reliability with their mobile broadband and internet. However, some people believe that if the technology is too good then it could spell the end of the humble home computer and fixed line services because more and more people in Australia will switch to using mobile broadband because it offers the flexibility of being able to use it whilst on the go as well as when users are at home.
It is believed that by 2013 the home computer may no longer be the main source of accessing the Internet, as people increasingly turn to smart phones and broadband dongles to get online. Once 4G is more widespread this could end up sealing the fate of home computers, with the faster speeds encouraging even more people to opt for mobile services rather than surfing the net at home.
However, not everyone agrees that this will happen. Some people say that they are happy to use mobile internet services and devices when they are on the move but when at home they prefer their home broadband and computer for comfort, speed, and reliability.
Others, however, say that their mobile devices are far more convenient. Speaking about her smart phone one consumer said: “I use it all the time – it’s just such a handy tool and gives you so much freedom to access things on the internet. It’s amazing how many times you use it to pull up little facts and trivia, just while talking to your friends.”
Would you abandon your home PC to surf via mobile internet services?
