An event will begin very soon that that will work towards showing how the new National Broadband Network can provide high-speed broadband access to a wide range of services that, according to the Federal Government, will benefit many communities throughout Australia once it has been built.

A connection will be established over this new broadband in Canberra and will connect to a family that live in Darwin who are currently using the RIDBC’s teleschools services and the Sydney based Royal Institute for Deaf and Blind Children (RIDBC). In doing this Senator Kate Lundy hopes to demonstrate what she believes to be “improved social and educational outcomes for Australian.”

The Senator will be connecting from the new Polycom offices based in Canberra and will be demonstrating the service to both the Darwin family and the North Rock based RIDBC with the use of the Polycom telepresence suite. Senator Lundy will hopefully by showing what can be achieved over the network with a five minute video of the RIDBC’s teleschool service and will then explain how the National Broadband network will eventually be improved and will be able to reach far more users throughout the country.

Whilst at the new Polycom office Senator Lundy will be officially opening the latest part of the city’s Hotel Realm complex, which is home to the company’s global telepresence network.

The positive and negative aspects of the forthcoming NBN has been open to much debate in the meantime with questions being raised in a number of areas like how much the taxpayer and the Government will eventually end up having to paying for the building of the network, whether there would be any kind of investment coming from the private sector and many others.
