These days there are many more children in Australia that have access to the internet on a regular basis, with more and more households and educational institutions having broadband services available for kids to use. It has been proven that having broadband and internet access can prove highly beneficial for children, especially in terms of their education because of the tools and resources that are available to kids that have internet access.

The Australian Bureau of Statistics has recently released data relating to the number of children in South Australia that have access to the Internet. The figures showed that around seventy nine percent of children in South Australia have access to the internet, with around sixty nine percent of them having access within the home and seventy one percent having access at school.

The figures also showed that less than fifty percent of those that accessed the internet from home used the internet for two hours or less per week. Eighteen percent of those accessing the internet at home were found to be using the internet for ten hours a week or more.

Many children were also found to be using the Internet for social networking and chat rooms, and nearly three quarters of those using the internet for these purposes were aged between twelve and fourteen. There were also more girls than boys that engaged in these activities via the internet.
