Airspan WiMAX solution expands the BigAir network in Australia
With the use of Airspan Networks’ solution, the Australian wireless broadband service provider, BigAir Group Limited is now expanding its WiMAX services.
In order to expand its offering of services into the Adelaide, Gold Coast, Brisbane and Perth markets in the frequency bands of 5.4GHz and 5.8GHz the Australian service provider is making use of Airspan’s WiMAX equipment according to an Airspan official.
Following extensive trials back in 2007 Airspan were selected by BigAir as Airspan’s network allowed it to secure, robust and reliable connections said officials. Whilst providing Australian’s with the bandwidth they require using 4G technology BigAir, which has a customer base that is consistently growing, is also helping to bridge the currently digital divide in Australia.
In a recent statement the CEO of BigAir, Jason Ashton said “BigAir has been very successful in serving our customer base.”
BigAir now covers six of Australia’s largest cities and owns and operates the largest fixed wireless next-generation broadband network in Australia according to Ashton.
He said “Utilizing Airspan’s solution allows us to offer our customers higher speed, greater reliability and lower-cost broadband services.”
To be able to achieve its higher point-to-point bandwidth needs BigAir is currently using Airspan’s FlexNET backhaul solution on top of the latest WiMAX solution that it is also now using according to the officials.
The president of business development for Airspan, Henrik Smith-Petersen said “We have been very impressed with BigAir’s success and growth.”
The global leadership position of Airspan has been strengthened further through the number of achievements that it has made through BigAir said Smith-Peterson.
He said “Our advanced technology offers the functionality and business model that allows our partner’s success. We are especially excited by this growth in Australia.”
