Recently Akamai released its State of the Internet Report for the final quarter of last year, showing where various countries ranked in terms of their Internet speed.

Broadband speeds are very important to users of the Internet in most cases, and countries all around the world are keen to provide their residents and businesses with access to high speed broadband. This is something that the Rudd government in Australia is keen to do, and is hoping that this will be achieved through its National Broadband Network.

However, despite the efforts that the government has been putting into the National Broadband Network the country fared relatively poorly on a recent table of countries ranked in terms of their internet speeds. The report was the quarterly State of the Internet Report, which was released by Akamai.

The Akamai State of the Internet Report, which was released earlier this week, showed that Australia actually ranked at number fifty eight in terms of its Internet speed compared to other countries, and this put it behind Thailand, Russia, the UK, the United States, Japan, and even New Zealand, according to the results of the report.

Australia has one of the fastest growing internet penetration rates in the world, but despite this success it found itself behind a huge number of other countries in terms of the average internet speeds that it was able to offer to its residents and businesses. In the meantime the Rudd government is continuing with its National Broadband Network plans, which it hopes will provide greater access and improved speeds and services for users in the country.
