Australia sees increase in online advertising
According to recent figures there has been an increase in online advertising in Australia, but traditional advertising is continuing to struggle in the current climate.
With more and more people having broadband connections in their homes, thus spending more time online, a rising number of companies have come to realise that there is a lot to be gained from online advertising, and that this can be a cost effective yet wide reaching form of advertising to make people aware of the product or service that they are offering.
In the current financial and economic climate many companies are looking to cut back on expenditure but still need to advertise in order to get their message across to consumers, and it appears that many have decided to turn to online advertising in order to reach the Australian public without overspending on their limited budgets.
This has been reflected in recent figures from the Interactive Advertising Bureau of Australia. Officials from the IAB Australia have said that there has been an increase of around eighteen and a half percent in online advertising over the past financial year, yet traditional advertising, which is often far more expensive, has been struggling. In fact, some officials have said that even when the recession is over traditional advertisers should not expect to see the success that they enjoyed prior to the crisis.
One official from the IAB said: “I think the anecdotal evidence tells us a lot of advertisers have seen online as the safest option. While we know marketing and advertising budgets have been cut, and they have also been cut for online spending, a lot of advertisers have maintained their online presence. This is because, depending where you are investing your money, a lot of people feel that actually there is a more measurable return on investment with online media. Particularly with search engine optimisation, a lot of marketers feel they can get a more measurable ROI.”
