Australians dubbed smart phone fanatics
A recent report based on research carried out by communications giant Telstra has shown that Australia is becoming a nation of smart phone fanatics.
Being able to access the internet in the past often meant having fixed line broadband services for many Australians. Whilst fixed line broadband has proven invaluable to many Australian consumers and business users it has been restrictive in terms of where and when people could get online, as they had to be in a fixed location such as the home or office.
However, these days there are a number of options for those that want to get online whilst on the move, and this includes mobile broadband services and smart phones. In fact, recent research that was carried out by the communications giant Tesltra has shown that Australian is turning into a nation of smart phone fanatics, with a rising number of people becoming increasingly reliant on their smart phones.
An official from Telstra said: “Whether we’re at home in front of the tele, in the bathroom or in bed, Telstra’s research suggests smartphones have become an indispensible way for Aussies to get connected and access the information, entertainment and news that matters to them. Over the past 12 months we’ve seen huge growth in the popularity of smartphones and they now make up more than half of all Next G™ handset sales in Telstra Stores Australia-wide.”
She added: “Telstra’s Smartphone Index suggests smartphones are beginning to eclipse PCs as the preferred way of accessing certain online content. Almost one in four smartphone owners visit social networking sites like Facebook® on their mobiles more than on a computer. Surprisingly, we also found around 10 per cent are more likely to do their online banking from their phone than on their PC.”
