Internet shopping has become increasingly popular over recent years, with many people turning to the Internet to shop. With more and more people in Australia having access to faster broadband connections online shopping is set to become increasingly popular, and according to recent reports Australians are set to get sales soaring by 2013 by engaging in a greater level of online shopping.

Retailers are now being warned to get their act together and start expanding their online presence and sales channels if they want to get a piece of the action. It is thought that billions of extra dollars will be spent by Australian consumers on online shopping over the next two years.

The surge in online shopping is expected to continue after 2013, with more and more people having access to high speed broadband as a result of access through the National Broadband Network. An official from Paypal said: ”If you are an Australian retailer that does not have an online store today, you are not meeting the demand. In Australia, we are still seeing retailers with small inventories online and bigger inventories in-store.”

Whilst online shopping only makes up a percentage of total sales in Australia officials have said that it has been growing twice as fast as High Street sales, reflecting the increasing popularity of this type of shopping. Ebay officials have claimed that online shopping grew ten times as fast as regular retailing last year.
