Average broadband speeds in Australia increase
A recent broadband speed report has shown that the average broadband speed in Australia is on the rise, with more and more Australians taking out high speed broadband.
Akamai’s State of the Internet report was released recently and showed that the average broadband speed in Australia was on the rise, as more and more Australians opted for higher speed broadband services. Peak connection speeds are said to be close to the highs seen in 2009 according to data and Australians are said to be getting the fastest off peak speeds ever.
The figures showed that the fastest average speeds for Australia were recorded in the suburb of Riverwood in New South Wales. However, although the average speed here was 5.9Mbps it did not make the Akamai list of top one hundred cities based on fastest broadband speeds.
The figures also showed that the amount of malicious traffic that was coming through via mobile networks had also increased across Australia, with over seven percent of attacks said to be originating from devices that were operating via cellular networks. Akamai officials believe that this could be due to user with infected computers using their smart phones such as the iPhone as a tethering device to get online.
Despite the higher average speeds that Australia has experienced based on the latest report, there is still a long way to go as broadband speeds are still way behind many other countries such as Germany, Spain, Japan, the US and Hong Kong.
