Broadband used by almost two thirds of Australian homes
The Australian Bureau of Statistics has revealed that around two thirds of all homes in Australia now use broadband connections.
The Australian Bureau of Statistics has recently released figures relating to the take up of broadband services in homes across Australia, and the figures suggest that there has been a significant increase compared to last year when it comes to the number of homes across Australia that now have broadband services.
The figures from the Australian Bureau of Statistics showed that as of June 2009 just over five million homes across the country had broadband services, and this reflected an increase of seven hundred thousand homes compared to the previous year, equating to an increase of sixteen percent compared to the previous year.
The data showed that there are now nearly two thirds of homes across Australia that now have broadband, with around sixty two percent of homes in the country having broadband services. The highest proportion of broadband connections is said to be in the Australian Capital Territory, where nearly three quarters of homes have broadband connections. On the other hand the lowest level of connections can be found in Tasmania, where just under fifty percent of households are connected.
According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics there are now nearly six and a half million households that have a computer, and nearly six million of these have access to the Internet. Since 1998 this reflects an increase of 4.8 million connected households. It was found that households with children under the age of fifteen were more likely to have broadband access, as children used their broadband services for a wide range of purposes, from using social networking sites to education and online gaming.
