The government in Australia is convinced that its National Broadband Network is an innovation that will revolutionise Australia in terms of digital technology and broadband quality. For some time Malcolm Turnbull and the Coalition have said that the National Broadband Network will be a white elephant, and the survey indicates that many businesses agree with this.

The survey was carried out as part of the CEDA-Business Spectator Big Issues, and the survey was completed by a total of three thousand people. The results showed that the majority of businesses thought that the National Broadband Network was a waste of money, which will go a long way towards boosting the communications opposition number, Malcolm Turnbull. The result will also come as a huge blow to the communications minister, Stephen Conroy, as it questions his ability to sell the NBN to consumers and businesses.

The survey also asked respondents about a number of other issues. In addition to dubbing the NBN as a waste of money those responding to the survey also wanted the government to stop ploughing money into economic stimulus programmes and tighten the budget. They also called for immigration intake to be increased to 200,000 a year.

With regards to the NBN sixty percent of respondents said that they did not think that it was worthwhile, and just twenty seven percent approved of the NBN. Fifty nine percent of respondents said that they were happy with the speeds that they were getting from their existing networks, and over sixty two percent said that they would not be prepared to pay more for higher speeds.
