Competition between broadband providers set to increase
With a number of broadband service providers about to roll out new broadband infrastructures throughout Australia the level of competition between telco’s is set to pick up pace in the coming months.
It is widely believed that at some point over the next few weeks ISP Netspace, which is based in Melbourne, will be announcing that a project it has been working on for a number of months to expand its current ADSL2+ broadband service in Tasmania will soon begin rolling out.
Although ADSL2+ services are already being offered in Tasmania by the likes of Telstra, it is nothing compared to the level of expansion that is currently planned by Netspace.
In order to allow the broadband provider to cover a much large area of the state with its roll out of ADSL2+ broadband, Netspace are making a large investment into it own personal infrastructure within the telephone exchanges in Tasmania, according to Matthew Phillips, the manager for carrier affairs at Netspace.
Imminent announcements would soon be made with regards to its plans for expansion said Mr Phillips who added that he was happy that the rollout so far had created “quite a bit of enthusiasm”.
Competition in the ADSL2+ marketplace was welcomed by Telstra and it too was making plans to increase its broadband coverage in the months to come said Michael Patterson, the general manager for Telstra Countrywide.
Mr Patterson Said “We are looking at upgrading the smaller exchanges, which will push ADSL2+ out further in Tasmania. We will be pushing out ADSL2+ to 88 per cent of Tasmanian homes. We continue to invest in our network in Tasmania as we have done for 100 years. In terms of our offering, we offer a package which is about value and that is why Telstra Bigpond is the biggest ISP in Australia.”
