Concerns expressed over unlimited broadband advertisement
Concerns have been expressed by the Australian Federation Against Copyright Theft with regards to a telco’s television advertisement relating to unlimited broadband.
Illegal downloading is an issue that has caused much upset in the entertainment industry, and has been taken very seriously by the Australian Federation Against Copyright Theft. Officials from AFACT have now expressed concern over a television advertisement that was broadcast by one major Australian Telco, which is advertising its unlimited broadband plan.
The concerns have been raised because AFACT reckons that the advertisement by one of the major telcos in Australia, AAPT, does not provide clarification with regards to downloading, and fails to make it clear that downloads should be from a legal source. The national advertisement was run to promote the company’s unlimited broadband plan.
An official from AFACT said: “The circumstances of the advertisement can be misconstrued and our concern is that, in the context of the advertising, AAPT have said your teenagers can download as many movies as they want overnight without any clarification.” The group added: “We hope that in this case AAPT had no intention to promote illegal downloads by neglecting to state in their communications that all movie or TV show downloads should come from legitimate sources.”
However, AAPT said: “In our television advertisements we clearly state that AAPT does not condone such practices.” It said that during the advertisement the words ‘AAPT does not condone illegal downloading’ appeared on screen.
