Fourth annual broadband environment challenge to be sponsored by Alcatel Lucent
It has been reported that the fourth annual broadband environment challenge in Australia is to be sponsored once again by Alcatel Lucent along with the Telecommunications Society of Australia.
Budding entrepreneurs with an interest in the Internet could be in line to win some great cash prizes in Australia, with the announcements that Alcatel Lucent is once again sponsoring the fourth annual broadband challenge along with the Telecommunications Society of Australia. The challenge is the Alcatel-Lucent Australia Broadband Challenge for the Sustainable Environment and is open to Australian university students.
The purpose of the challenge is to get university students to put forward their ideas with regards to how broadband technology could be used to help environmental sustainability. There is plenty of prize money in the pot for winning ideals, with a total of twenty thousand dollars up for grabs. The winner will get five thousand dollars to keep plus another ten thousand dollars for their university, and the runners up will receive three thousand dollars and two thousand dollars respectively.
An official from Alcatel Lucent stated: ‘Technology and the environment will play an increasingly critical role in Australia. Both are relevant topics right now because the national broadband network presents an important opportunity to continue to improve Australia’s commitment to the environment. Using high speed broadband to gather and transmit environmental intelligence or minimise the human impact on our environment through the use of advanced broadband technologies are just two examples.’
He added: ‘High speed broadband is Australia’s future and innovating ahead of building the infrastructure is critical, so that as it is built the benefits immediately flow. Who better to help with today’s innovation than our students?’
