ICT week launches second National ICT Careers Week
Stephen Conroy, the Australian Communications Minister, has been talking about the National Broadband Network this week after kicking off the second National ICT Careers Week.
The second ever National ICT Careers Week in Australia was launched this week by the communications minister, Stephen Conroy. According to reports Conroy has been using this opportunity to talk about the Australian National Broadband Network, and discussing the various career opportunities it might bring to those that are looking to break into or progress within the ICT industry.
The minister said that the NBN is expected to generate a number of roles within this industry, and he stated that this was therefore the ideal time to break into an industry such as ICT because of the opportunities that would be available to those that are committed. He said: “ICT professionals are an important national resource as an increasing number of everyday economic and social activities are enabled by the internet and other networks. They are a vital foundation for our national digital economy.”
The week has been organised by the ACS, and the group, along with National ICT Australia (NICTA), celebrated the launch by announcing that students in years 10 to 12 will have the opportunity to win five thousand dollars as well as an internship with NICTA by way of a National ICT Prize.
An official from NICTA said: “Offering school students the opportunity to contribute to dynamic, world-class ICT research projects is a powerful way to engage them with tertiary-level ICT study and participation in the digital economy.”
In addition to this Google is providing the opportunity for some students to tour the offices in Sydney with their parents, which is part of Google Student Day, and an officials from the corporation said: “Students choosing careers today have so many exciting options in technology and we hope to inspire some of those choices through Google Student Day.”
