Improved broadband for regional Queensland
It is reported that both consumers and business in regional Queensland can look forward to better, more reliable broadband services thanks to the opening of Australia’s longest ever fibre optic link.
Having high quality, reliable, and speedy broadband is something that it important to both households and businesses in Australia. Many residents and businesses in the regional Queensland area will soon be able to look forward to more reliable, faster, better quality broadband services as the result of the opening of Australia’s longest ever fibre optic link.
The Darwin fibre optic backbone link is stretched more than 3800 kilometres from Darwin to Toowoomba. It passes through many other towns – more than thirty in total – which include Mount Isa, Emerald and Longreach. Also, with the opening of the Darwin fibre optic backbone link comes the completion of the network construction phase of the Government’s $250 million Regional Backbone Blackspots Program (RBBP).
According to Acting Prime Minister Wayne Swan the program will enable people in the area to enjoy far better, more reliable and faster broadband services, which will prove to be invaluable to residents and in particular to businesses. He said that more and more people would now be able to make the most of the digital economy as a result of the measures.
Mr Swan stated: “From Mount Isa to Longreach, Emerald, Roma and other smaller regional centres throughout Queensland, this will be a significant benefit for families and local businesses. It will help bridge the digital divide to ensure towns in regional Queensland have access to first-rate broadband.”
