These days many people around the world make online transactions, using their broadband to get online and order a range of goods and services. Consumers have become far more confident and assured about making transactions online, and by doing so have access to a far greater choice of products and services as well as being able to enjoy greater value for money.

Figures have recently been released by the Australian Communications and Media Authority, indicating that a rising number of internet users in Australia are embracing the digital economy. This is said to be reflected in the increase in the number of Australian internet users that have ordered goods and services online.

The figures showed that eighty eight percent of Australian internet users were undertaking one or more e-commerce activities, and in the last six months sixty nine percent has purchased goods or services online at least once. The figures were released recently at the annual Communications Policy and Research Forum, held in Sydney.

ACMA Chairman Chris Chapman said: ‘These are suggestive of increasing consumer confidence with making online transactions. The internet is empowering consumers to purchase more economically and efficiently by making it easier to locate goods and services and often to compare costs.’ He added: ‘E-commerce is one of a number of internet activities performed by Australians online and this is the first time the ACMA has explored the nature of Australian participation and engagement with e-commerce in any depth.’
