Modern technology affects dating etiquette
According to a recent report dating etiquette these days in Australia and around the world has changed as a result of consumers’ love affair with advanced technology.
Decades ago getting to know someone or arranging a date was something that was generally done either in person or via the telephone, although in some cases it may have been done in writing. However, these days this has all changed and a recent report has shown that dating etiquette in Australia and other parts of the world has changed hugely as a result of consumers’ love affairs with modern technology.
Years ago people did not have things such as email, broadband, smart phones, and texting to help them to secure dates, get to know people, and aid their relationships. However, these days many people are found to be texting one another to set up dates and flirt, getting on social networking sites via their broadband service or smart phones, and using various other forms of technology to aid and improve their love lives.
The research was carried out by Telstra, and an official from the firm said: “Few aspects of our lives have been influenced as much by technology as our love lives. When you consider that half of all handset sales in Telstra stores and dealers are email-enabled smartphones, and the fact that the number of Telstra customers using Facebook on their mobiles has grown almost four-fold since April 2009, it’s clear there are now so many more ways for couples to interact than there was 10 years ago – from email to social networking, instant messaging and video calling!”
Author of top selling book Flirtexting, Debra Goldstein, said: “Courting has changed dramatically since our parents were ‘going steady’ and the home phone was a dating lifeline. Modern technology has transformed traditional dating rules, with instant, one-click access to new communication tools creating a new set of etiquette for dating in the digital world.”
