More Tasmanian towns named for NBN rollout
As part of the ongoing rollout of the National Broadband Network in Australia a further seven Tasmanian towns have been named for the rollout of the network.
The National Broadband Network, which has not been without controversy, is currently in the process of being rolled out across Australia, despite objections from the opposition who have branded it a waste of money. The government is still insistent that the NBN will make a huge positive difference to businesses, residents, and economies in Australia, and the rollout is now underway.
It has been announced that as part of the NBN rollout a further seven towns in Tasmania have been named as places where the NBN is set to be rolled out. The first towns in Tasmania to receive the superfast broadband service last year were Smithton, Scottsdale and Midway Point.
The next seven towns in the area that have been highlighted as being next for access to the high speed network are Deloraine, Kingston Beach, George Town, Sorell, South Hobart, St Helens and Triabunna. Officials claim that around eleven and a half thousand businesses and residents in these towns will benefit from the rollout of the NBN. Construction in these towns is set to being in May according to officials.
A spokesperson for NBN Co said: “Tasmania has been at the forefront of the development of the NBN in Australia, and we are very pleased to announce the next phase of construction is ready to commence. NBN Co has chosen a staged network construction approach as it allows us to incorporate learnings from previous work in a process of continuous improvement.”
Do you live or work in one of these areas that are set to be next for NBN access?
