More towns added to NBN rollout plan
It has been reported that an additional eight towns and cities have been added to the National Broadband Network rollout plan for over the next year.
Whilst the National Broadband Network has been rolled out to some parts of Australia, the plan is still in its early stages and there is still a long way to go with regards to progressing with the rollout. Slowly but surely, more towns and cities are being added to the rollout plans as expansion of the network continues, and recently a further eight towns and cities were added to the plans for the rollout of the network.
Earlier this week the company heading up the rollout of the network, NBN Co, released its quarterly update. The company provided information about the rollout schedule and also provided the names of more cities and towns that had been added to the rollout schedule as part of the expansion of the network.
The towns and cities that have been added to the plans include several suburbs of Melbourne, including Footscray, Karingal and Keysborough; Corrimal in New South Wales; Bellerive and Claremont, which are both in Hobart; Ascot in north-east Brisbane; and South Launceston. By January of 2012 around 758,100 premises should have access to the National Broadband Network, which is over 191,000 more than outlined on the initial schedule.
The rollout is set to continue until 2021, but which time around ninety three percent of homes and businesses should have access to the network. NBN Co is set to release its three year rollout plan soon, which should provide details of further areas to be added to the rollout schedule.
