According to a recent report mobile broadband will not be replacing fixed line services any time soon, with the majority of downloads still being carried out via fixed line services.

Ever since mobile broadband services exploded onto the scenes there has been speculation over whether this technology will one day see home fixed line broadband become obsolete as more and more people rely on mobile broadband all the time. However, whilst some people now use their mobile broadband service to complement their fixed line service there is no evidence that it will be getting rid of fixed lines any time in the near future.

Many experts have said that people use mobile broadband as a service to run alongside their fixed line service rather than as a replacement, and this would certainly seem to be the case. A recent survey has shown that the majority of downloads are carried out via fixed line broadband even though so many people have access to mobile broadband.

With 4G mobile networks set to expand in terms of accessibility in Australia the speculation over whether this will replace fixed line service will most likely begin all over again. However, with fixed lines dominating the market when it comes to downloads this is still going to be unlikely.

The growth of mobile broadband services is said to be down to convenience and flexibility rather than being down to having a service that is superior to fixed line. Fixed line still accounts for a massive ninety one percent of data volumes when it comes to downloads.
