It is claimed that Australia is planning to go fully digital by the time the end of this decade comes around, and the National Broadband Network is expected to help achieve this goal.
There is no doubt that the National Broadband Network in Australia has seen its fair share of controversy. However, it seems that this technology is precisely the thing that could help the nation to achieve its goals with regards to becoming a digital nation over the coming years.
According to recent reports Australia is planning to go fully digital by the time the end of this decade comes around, and the National Broadband Network is expected to help achieve this goal. According to the Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy, Senator Stephen Conroy, the NBN will help Australia become a world-leading digital economy by 2020.
Conroy was speaking at the launch of the National Digital Economy Strategy at the CeBIT conference. He said that the NBN would aid competition, productivity, and improvements in many areas of the economy as well as aiding vital services such as education and health services.
Conroy stated: “The Gillard Government is committed to ensuring Australian households and businesses, through the NBN, can receive the full benefits of the digital economy no matter where they live around Australia. Building the NBN is a key step towards that vision, which has as one of its goals Australia being among the top five OECD countries by 2020 when it comes to the percentage of households connected to broadband at home.”
