NBN to bring McKinsey and Co. onboard
A Joint lead advisor role for the implementation study of the NBN network has been given to McKinsey & Company along with the addition of two of its ex-partners joining the new board, which means it will play a big part in the next stage of the National Broadband Network rollout.
The new study, which will see the Federal Government being advised on areas like governance, methods of attracting investment from the private sector, ownership caps and the overall design of the network, is now to be carried out by the accountancy company, KPMG and McKinsey and Co who both teamed up to win the contract.
Eight other groups were beaten to this project by the two companies, winning themselves a contract that is believed to be valued at around $25 million.
In order to make crucial decisions regarding the structure of the project the new advisory group will be working side-by-side with the company that has been set up to control the network, which has been call NBN Co.
The Federal Government named the new directors of the NBN Co recently and they will include a mixture of both legal and business figures from many different areas of the corporate world including the telecommunications sector.
The new board will consist of Doug Campbell, a Telstra senior executive; former Wesfarmers finance director, Gene Tilbrook; Siobhan McKenna, the Productivity Commission member; the former Westpac IT specialist Diane Smith-Gander and Peter Hay, the former Freehills chief executive.
The chief executive of the NBN and former Alcatel senior executive who was announced last month will now be joined by these new board members.
The Communications minister, Stephen Conroy said “These appointments move us to an important next stage in the implementation of this historic nation-building infrastructure project.”
