NBN will benefit rural and regional Australians
In a recent report the Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy Senator Stephen Conroy stated that the NBN will benefit rural and regional Australians the most.
According to the Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy Senator Stephen Conroy the people that are likely to benefit the most from the National Broadband Network, or NBN, are those living in rural and regional areas. He said that the NBN was both affordable and viable, and that it could deliver high speed broadband services across Australia.
Conroy stated: “Rural and regional Australians have been forced to put up with higher prices for poorer telecommunications services. The Implementation Study states that people in rural and regional Australia will get affordable, world-class broadband services, either over fibre, or next generation wireless and satellite, with average data rates at least 20 times higher than most get today. This will deliver world-class broadband infrastructure to people in rural and regional areas.”
The Federal opposition has said that if elected it will scrap the NBN. Referring to this Conroy added: “Warren Truss and his Nationals’ colleagues should be welcoming the NBN, which will deliver far superior services to every single premise in rural and regional Australia. Instead, before they had even seen the Implementation Study, the Opposition announced it would block the NBN and deny better and more affordable broadband for millions of people in rural and regional Australia. ”
He went on to state: “This just demonstrates that the Liberals and Nationals have taken opposition for opposition’s sake to a whole new level, instead of serving the interests of people in rural and regional Australia who need better and more affordable services. Only five years ago the Nationals endorsed the findings of their Page Research centre which supported the rollout of fibre technology. Even last year the Nationals’ were publicly supporting fibre rollout. Now, the Opposition is ignoring a rigorous, independent Implementation Study, which shows the NBN is viable and affordable.”
