For many broadband users in Australia speed is a very important issue, and many people are keen to get the highest speed possible from their broadband service. The communications and broadband giant Telstra has recently announced that consumers in some parts of Australia could see the internet speeds over its Next G network doubled later this year with the launch of its new 3G modem.

The company said that the first to benefit from its latest advancements will be regional Australians, with around one hundred regional towns and cities set to benefit from the higher speeds, including Albury, Alice Springs, Orange, Broome, Ballarat, Roxby Downs, Port Lincoln and Newcastle.

The new device, which is to be launched later this year, is called the Telstra Ultimate USB, and will enable users to surf the internet and download files at up to twice the speed of those using the next fastest 3G modem that is available on the Next G network.

An official from Telstra said: “Telstra will make this new technology available in 100 selected regional towns and cities at the same time as many capital cities, underlining our commitment to provide the best technology to Australians no matter where they live. Telstra has been investing in regional and rural Australia for more than 100 years, including through Telstra Country Wide® for the past ten years, to improve the quality of life for people living and working in regional and rural Australia.”
