No more excess data charges for customers of Telstra Wireless

Broadband customers who use Telstra will now have their connection speeds reduced to a near dial-up speed if they exceed their monthly download cap following a decision by the telco to stop charging users for going over their limit.

The introduction of “no data excess” fees by Telstra as of the 18th Jan this year is likely to seen as too little, too late for many customers who in many cases have repeatedly been hit with these charges.

The broadband connections of customers will be reduced to 64Kbps if they reach their monthly cap rather that being charged for the excess they use at cost of $256 per gigabyte, which is similar to charges some of Telstra’s wireless customers had to pay previously.

Many other network operators like Optus have already been doing
this for years and this means that Telstra will not be the only network operator to be offering this kind of facility.

At a price of $29.95 the new plan range for users begins with 400MB data usage, which is an increase from the 200MB previously offered, and rises to a maximum of 10GB each month at a hefty cost of $119.95 per month.

The Next G wireless data plans that are offered by Telstra are available in most urban and regional parts of Australia making them the most well supported wireless data plans geographically and also the fastest and most stable even if the plans themselves are quite expensive.

The most recent ACMA statistics on broadband take-up during 2008 and 2009 in Australia show an increase of 162 percent compared to the same period last year showing that wireless broadband continues to be a highly popular alternative to cable and fixed phone line services.
