Off peak internet time reduced by iiNet

The amount of time broadband users have for off-peak downloading has now been cut by as much as four hours by broadband internet provider iiNet.

In order to better manage the data loads running across its network, most predominantly during weekend mornings the WA-based broadband company iiNet, which covers around 8 percent of customers in Australia that used fixed-line broadband services, has decided to alter its current broadband plans.

The amount of data customers will be able to download over their broadband connection will be increased in exchange for a reduction in the amount of time they will be able to use their off-peak quota.

An email entitled “Shiny plan upgrade – your broadband plan just got better”, in which iiNet tells users they will be getting “a better deal at no extra cost” has been issued to all iiNet broadband customers.

Rather than having the current 5GB quota during peak times and 7GB during off-peak times users will now get a 10GB quota during both peak and off-peak times on iiNet’s highly popular Home 2 plan under these new changes. The peak quota for some iiNet broadband users will be increased in order to offset the reduction in their off-peak quota.

There will be no changes in price for the new plans and users will have the option of doing nothing and have their plan changed automatically in 30 days or can immediately upgrade their broadband plan.

The majority of iiNet users will, however, have to use their broadband service between 2AM and 8AM to benefit from the off-peak data access quota. Off-peak access was 2AM until noon, every day of the week under the old plans.

Off-peak times have been changed to 1AM to 9AM for the heavy broadband users that have opted for at least 60GB in peak and off-peak data download quotas.
