Report shows Australia broadband speeds slower than New Zealand
Whilst Australia is up and running with its National Broadband Network, giving consumers and businesses high hopes when it comes to their broadband services, a recent report has suggested that current speeds in Australia are slower than those received in New Zealand.
The National Broadband Network in Australia is well underway now, and it is hoped that the initiative will change business and personal lives for the better for many people throughout the majority of the country by providing better speeds, more efficient and widespread connections, and by bridging the digital divide.
However, whilst Australia has high hopes for the future when it comes to broadband services, speeds, and connectivity, a recent report has suggested that the country currently gets slower average broadband speeds than New Zealand. The data came from the recently released State of the Internet report from Akamai, and the ratings showed that when it came to average broadband speeds Australia came in at fiftieth position.
The average connection speed that was noted for Australia according to the report was 2.6Mbps. New Zealand offered average broadband speeds of 2.9Mbps, and this put it in forty second place on the Akamai index. The fastest metropolitan area in Australia was Canberra, which average speeds of 2.7Mbps.
The data also showed that compared to the State of the Internet report from last year both Perth and Brisbane managed to improve their average broadband speeds. However, Sydney took a tumble, falling from second place to fifth place.
