Second stage of NBN rollout commences in Tasmania
It has been reported that the second stage of the National Broadband Network rollout in Tasmania has been welcomed by the Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy, Senator Stephen Conroy.
It was reported recently that the Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy, Senator Stephen Conroy had welcomed the rollout of the second stage of National Broadband Network projects, which have commenced in Tasmania. The rollout has started in Sorell, which Conroy said was one of the first stage two communities – of which there are seven in total in Tasmania – to begin construction.
Once the stage two projects have been completed more than eleven thousand homes and businesses in Tasmania will enjoy access to high speed broadband. Senator Conroy stated: “The Gillard Government is getting on with the job of delivering enhanced broadband services to Tasmania, which has traditionally had the lowest proportion of households with broadband access.”
The remaining stage two communities in the area are Triabunna, Kingston Beach, Deloraine, St Helens, George Town and South Hobart, and construction will begin there in the not too distant future. Conroy stated that these communities “will see construction commence shortly, with services expected to be available progressively from March 2012 as work in the different locations is completed.”
Local Federal Member for Lyons, Dick Adams, added: “By receiving the NBN now, it bridges the digital divide in our smaller communities and links us with the rest of Australia and the world in ways we could previously only dream of. The positive impact on health service delivery and educational programs is all about improving access to essential services.”
