Broadband Internet is something that more and more people across Australia have become increasingly reliant on over recent years, with many using this technology for everything from education and research to entertainment, work, savings, shopping and more.

It has now been revealed that around seventy five percent of homes in Australia now have access to broadband internet, with three out of four households having this technology. The data has been released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics, which showed that in 2010 and 2011 around 6.2 million homes – equating to seventy three percent – in Australia had broadband access.

The highest proportion of broadband access was seen in the ACT, where eighty three percent of households were said to be connected, whereas the lowest level of connectivity was said to be in Tasmania, where sixty five percent of households were said to be connected to broadband internet services.

The report also showed that one of the most popular activities on the Internet was social networking, with younger age groups heading up the use of social networking. Eighty eight percent of those aged fifteen to seventeen years were using this activity whilst eighty six percent of eighteen to twenty four year olds were engaging in it.
