Sixty percent of Australians visited online retailers in December

February 4th, 2010 by Jo

The results of a recent survey have shown that during the month of December 2009 around sixty percent of Australians with Internet access visited online retail sites.

The widespread rollout of broadband services over recent years has seen an increase in the number of people that have opted out of the rate race when it comes to doing their shopping, and rather than trawling the shopping malls and High Streets and spending hours stuck in queues have decided instead to shop online and enjoy the convenience, ease, and comfort that comes with this method of shopping.

A recent study that was carried out has shown that in the month of December 2009 around sixty percent of Australians with access to a computer visited online retail sites. An increasing number of retailers are realising the value of having an online presence, and this means that there are now more retailers operating online and more choice for the consumers that enjoy browsing and shopping online.

One official stated: “December continues to be the heaviest month for visitation to retail sites as the holiday shopping season reaches its pinnacle. The online channel is an increasingly important component of retailers’ holiday strategies with a growing number of consumers turning to the Web for comparison shopping and purchasing convenience.”

The level of retail sales for the month of December 2009 were said to be around three percent higher than in the same period the previous year, and with the National Broadband Network plans well underway any increase in broadband users is likely to see online shopping become even more popular amongst consumers that want to browse and shop from the comfort of their own home.
