Small businesses struggle to take a break
According to reports many small businesses owners in Australia are struggling to take a break over the Christmas period because they are so busy.
It has been claimed that many small business owners in Australia are struggling to take time off over the Christmas period because they are too busy to do so. Whilst the rest of the nation gears up for the Christmas holidays many small business owners are left struggling to keep on top of their work, without having time to even take a break.
A survey of small business owners was carried out recently and the results showed that a massive sixty four percent had only taken a week’s leave or less over the course of this year. Seventy four percent of these said that they could not afford to lose money by taking time off, and just under fifty percent said that they had no time to take a break or had nobody to fill in for them if they took holiday.
Business owners have more freedom these days in terms of the technology that can help them to find more time to spend away from their work base, such as mobile broadband services. However, broadband and communications giant Telstra, which conducted the survey, said: “While new mobility solutions have provided tools that enable business owners to get away from their office and spend time with family and friends, there are still many who are unable to escape the pressures of work.”
COSBOA chief executive, Mr Peter Strong, said that small business owners were under great pressure, stating: “We are concerned about the health of small business owners who for a variety of reasons fail to share the great Australian tradition of an annual holiday with family and friends. Small retail businesses tell us they are concerned they will lose existing business if they take a break. Governments at all levels must ensure red tape is kept to a minimum for small business so sole traders and owner-operators can enjoy a holiday for their health.”
