Small businesses will benefit most from the National Broadband Network

Both individuals and business are expected to benefit greatly from the development of Australia’s biggest nation-building infrastructure project in history, which is valued at $43 billion, the highly anticipated National Broadband Network.

Users in Australia will receive broadband access in a way they have never previously been able to with the connecting of 90 percent of all homes, workplaces and schools in the country running at speeds that will be as much as 100 times faster than any broadband connection currently available.

The program, which will see the improvement of business processes over digital or online networks and the improvement of access to markets and capital, which would then enhance customer services and relationships, internal business functions, and also B2B relationships will see small businesses becoming the big winners. Productivity in Australia is expected to be driven with the help of the NBN when it is introduced as high-speed broadband services are becoming increasingly important to the way companies do business.

The CEO of the Council of Small Business of Australia (COSBOA), Jaye Radisich said ‘The opportunities for small businesses in Australia’s broadband future are limitless. The NBN will help small businesses by promoting workplace flexibility, which in turn will provide savings for businesses and better work–life balance for staff.’

Ms Radisich went on to say ‘Broadband is an enabler for innovation – and we know that Australian small businesses are among the most innovative in the world. The possibilities for what small businesses will be able to deliver with high-speed broadband are mind-blowing. Start-ups will emerge more quickly and easily to take advantage of new and niche market opportunities.’
