According to recent reports South Australia is lagging behind when it comes to wireless broadband access, despite the fact that wireless broadband use in Australia has rocketed.

According to a recent report the use of wireless broadband in Australia is continuing to soar with more and more people wanting to get online without being tied to a particular location within the home. However, the report also claims that South Australia is lagging behind when it comes to access to wireless broadband services, and figures that have been released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics have shown that households in the area have the lowest broadband connection rates in mainland Australia.

For many people wireless broadband access provides the perfect solution for their home, because it means that not only are they not restricted to working from a particular location within the house but also that other users can access the Internet within their home from the same connection, which is ideal for those with multiple computers in the home.

Figures have shown that on a national basis the use of 3G mobile and wireless broadband services across Australia rocketed by around one hundred and sixty two percent during the 2008-2009 period, and by June had reached over two million. These figures were released by the Australian Communications and Media Authority.

However, in South Australia only fifty four percent of households had access to broadband services and this compared to sixty two percent on a national basis. Figures also showed that in South Australia around twenty five percent of households did not have access to a computer, compared to twenty two percent on a national basis.
