Study finds Internet has a positive not negative impact
Despite some figures that indicate that the Internet can have a negative impact on frequent users a recent study has claimed that the impact on people is largely positive.
A study has recent been carried out looking at whether the internet has more of a positive or negative impact on users. With so many people now having access to broadband more and more people are spending time online. However, this has created concern over what sort of impact this is having on those that spend a lot of their time on the Internet.
The study was carried out by the Australian National University. According to the study those that use the internet frequently are less likely to feel obliged to follow normal citizenship such as obeying laws – around 38 percent of regular users thought obeying laws and regulations was important compared to 51 percent of less frequent users.
The study said: “We are all familiar with our children spending hours in front of their computers visiting websites and interacting with others around the world. It is often suggested that a civic-oriented society has been declining over time as people have become less involved in voluntary social and political activities, less trusting of strangers and less likely to forge bonds with people whom they have never met face-to-face.”
However, it also said: “The results from the poll show that the internet helps people to not only participate in social groups that they already belong to, but also to interact with people from different age, race and national backgrounds.”
Is the internet good or bad for regular users?
