It has been announced by the mobile and communications giant Optus that cable customers from the Brisbane, Melbourne, and Sydney areas will be amongst the first to experience its supersonic broadband services following upgrades to its cable broadband network. The upgrades will be made to Optus’ Hybrid Fibre Coaxial (HFC) cable network.

According to Optus officials the network upgrades will enable its cable customer to enjoy speeds of up to four times faster than ever before, and nearly one and a half million people across the three areas where the supersonic broadband will be made available will have access to the high speed network when signing up to the Optus Premium Speed Pack, which costs from just fifteen dollars per month.

Michael Smith, Optus Consumer Managing Director, said: “The upgrade of our HFC network to DOCSIS 3.0 demonstrates another significant investment from Optus. Australians are hungry for high speed broadband, so we’ve upgraded our cable network to provide the broadband speeds of tomorrow, today.”

Smith said that speed hungry consumers would welcome the upgrades and the access to higher speed broadband. He added: “We continue to bring value and freedom to our customers by developing plans that are easy to understand and represent great value. With the Premium Speed Pack available as a bolt on to our existing broadband offers, we are proving once again that when Optus brings new technology to market we make it affordable and accessible to our customers.”
