Telecom to provide TiVo service in New Zealand and Australia

Broadband service provider, Telecom has entered into a partnership with Hybrid Television Services, the exclusive licensee in New Zealand and Australia of TiVo products, and will be making TiVo media devices available at some point in November.

All of the Freeview and Freeview HD channels will be available to customers of Telecom without the need for a set top box and TV shows and movies can be downloaded and watched directly on the TV with no impact on the monthly broadband data allowance.

Both PC’s and mobile devices can have content transferred to them and TV programs will either be pay-per-view or free with advertising and films with just be viewed on a pay-per-view basis.

There will be a number of features available with the TiVo service, which will include the ability to record every episode in a series, auto record favourite actors using a wish list, provide a safe environment for children with the TiVo KidZone and the pausing and rewinding of live TV.

The will be software updates and the 14-day-on-screen guide as well as unmetered games and information services provided by Telecom broadband.

The CEO of Hybrid TV, Robbee Minicola said “In addition to getting the best of free-to-air digital TV, Telecom customers will have access to broadband entertainment which they will only pay for what they view instead of paying monthly subscription fees.”

There will initially be the option to buy the TiVo media device along with a Wireless Adaptor from either the customer service channel at 123 or through the Telecom retail store where it will be bundled at a cost of $920.00 (Inc GST) at launch.

The will also be a deferred payment option of $30 per month over 24 months with a $200 up front payment, which will be added to the first Telecom phone bill, offered by Telecom.
