Telstra drums up support for kids in remote areas
Broadband and communications giant Telstra is trying to drum up support from Australians to try and get kids in remote areas connected to advanced technology.
As many people are already aware kids that have easy access to tools and resources such as broadband and computers have a distinct advantage over those that do not when it comes to education, learning, training, and jobs. This is something that has caused a lot of concern amongst many industry officials, who believe that kids in remote and disadvantaged areas also need to have similar access.
Broadband and communications giant Telstra is now looking to drum up support from Australians when it comes to getting kids from remote areas connected to modern technology that could help then with their education and give them a helping hand when it comes to their future success.
The provider is asking Australians to simply send an SMS in order to help get these kids connected, and this relates to its partnership with One Laptop Per Child. For every one thousand SMS messages that are sent stating LAPTOP to 044 SUPPORT Telstra will donate another purpose built XO laptop to the scheme.
A Telstra official said: “Telstra’s networks are primarily about connecting people and making a real difference to their lives. By helping provide XO laptops to isolated Australian children, we are delivering technology that will positively affect their education, their future and the wider community. The Telstra OLPC Charity Text initiative is another great way we can use Telstra’s mobile technology to enable Australians with the opportunity to support such an important organisation.”
