www 250x259 Telstra helps to make internet safer for kidsThe rising number of broadband service users in Australia has led to a rise in the number of kids accessing and using the internet, and whilst this can be highly advantageous for kids it can also be a danger.

Over recent years more and more households in Australia have signed up to broadband services, and having this affordable and constant access to the internet has resulted in a rising number of children being able to access and use the internet on a more regular basis and for longer periods of time.

There is no doubt that having access to the internet is advantageous for kids in terms of their education, socialising and entertainment, and more. However, it can also be a risk as there are many dangers lurking on the internet that can affect kids, and the more vulnerable and susceptible ones could end up on the receiving end of these dangers.

One communications giant Telstra has recently detailed its commitment to making the internet a safer place for the children of Australia. Broadband Minister, Stephen Conroy, has asked Internet Service Providers to take a lead on safety online for kids, and Telstra has said that it is more than happy to do this.

An official from Telstra said: “We will continue to help our customers understand the steps they can take to make the online experience as safe as possible. However, it is important for people to understand that there is no magic solution which will make the internet 100 per cent safe. As a result, we will continue to work closely with the Australian Federal Police, ACMA and other authorities to combat the abuse and exploitation of children.”
