3 dongle 250x253 Telstra provides first permanent 3G network in BirdsvilleVisitors that travel of Birdsville next month to enjoy the races will now be able to stay connected thanks to Telstra, which has launched the town’s first permanent 3G mobile service.

Next month will see the famous races take place in the town of Birdsville, which is an outback town in Queensland. The races will bring many people flocking to the town, but this year those visiting the area will be able to enjoy the benefits of a reliable 3G network thanks to the communications giant Telstra.

Telstra has launched its Next G network in the town, providing it with its first permanent 3G network. The town’s population is normally just one hundred and twenty residents, but when the Birdsville Races Carnival comes around this swells to more than six thousand as a result of the huge number of visitors.

Telstra Country Wide District Manager Matthew Mocatta said that Telstra had been keen to bring its 3G network to the area for some time. He stated: “Our customers told us that they wanted a permanent mobile service in Birdsville so our engineers developed a special solution which uses satellite-fed 3G technology instead of the terrestrial network to deliver the new Next G™ service to the town.”

He added: “It will provide coverage to the town and surrounding areas, extending outwards in a radius of approximately 20 to 30 kilometres. It will not only keep our customers connected during the popular Races Carnival, but will provide ongoing benefits to the town well into the future.”
