Officials from NBN Co, which is the company in charge of rolling out the National Broadband Network in Australia, have said that over the next year around seventy five thousand businesses and residents in South Australia will be able to enjoy access to the NBN. An NBN Co spokesperson is hosting a forum this week in Adelaide to provide a network delivery update to businesses and local government officials.

NBN Co’s Jim Hassell said that the first release site in South Australia, Willunga, had proven extremely successful, notching up the highest take up rate of high speed broadband  nationally. He said that more areas would have access to the high speed NBN in South Australia soon, which meant that even more people and businesses would be able to benefit.

Hassell said: “We passed about 1,100 premises in Willunga and it was a complete community that we were able to do. We actually sort of officially switched it on not very long ago at all, probably about eight weeks, and the take-up rate so far in there’s been very high, it’s been about 23 per cent.”

Speaking about the continued increased access to the NBN network in South Australia, he added: “For the next 12 months’ construction, that’ll be approximately 75,000 premises. They’re spread over a number of areas, through Modbury, Prospect, Stirling, Aldinga Beach, Seaford/McLaren Vale area, Strathalbyn, Port Augusta, Port Elliot and Yankalilla.”
