After details were recently released regarding limited trials, myKP, the Sydney-based ISP announced that it will be pre-qualifying several hundred requests to join its service offering unlimited xDSL.

Selected areas of regional NSW, Victorian towns and Sydney suburbs have been chosen for the trial, which myKP has anticipated will be finished in ‘a couple of months’ There has been no indication of download limits or any minimum contract term but the current charge will be $199 churn fee and $79.95 per month.

The arrangement between ISPs and wholesale capacity providers and the end user experience with be covered by the trail said George Kaloudis, myKP’s director of ‘stuff’.

Kaloudis said “Part of the trial program is to ascertain what the wholesalers are going to be able to deliver us. We may choose to go exclusive or continue to aggregate through various providers, picking and choosing the best option in a particular location. It’s most likely that we’ll go to a single supplier from what we’ve seen [in internal testing] but that’s ultimately not just my call.”

Kaloudis also advised that in preparation for the launch myKP had secured ‘national’ ADSL coverage, despite its’ impending wholesale negotiations. The delivery of ADSL2+ was something he said the ISP is exploring a number of options for. Details of the wholesale arrangement would soon be released advised Kaloudis. He also said that the offer of ‘unlimited’ access from myKP would be available to users that signed up for the trial.

Kaloudis said “The acceptable use policy is more of a precaution to make sure we can balance out everyone’s experiences. If we find someone using the product excessively, we’ll let them know and ask them to hold back a bit. It’s not our intention to kick people off if they start downloading terabytes of data.”

myKP will offer optional content-blocking software to parents that want to regulate their children’s access to certain Web sites and file types, such as executables.

Although the Federal Government has yet to approach myKP with regards to the net filtering trials he said the if asked it ‘probably would’.

Kaloudis said “We’ve looked at it – there’s no plans [to go down that path] but if the Government is seriously considering it then we have a responsibility to our users and the government to try and get a balance for all parties concerned.”
