Appeal of Naked ADSL2+ improved by phone number portability
The ability for customers to migrate, or port as it is also known, their existing home phone number over to Internode’s Voice over IP (VoIP) based phone service is now available using Internode’s Local Number Portability service.
This new service will not only benefit customers using Naked ADSL2 but also by moving their existing phone numbers over to NodePhone customers of the NBN will be able to get rid of the cost of the monthly rental on their phone lines.
Residential customers who live in capital cities throughout Australia and use an analogue telephone service provided by Telstra are currently using the service following the recent launch of the first phase of Local Number Portability. Customers using other providers of phone services and business customers will be the next area that Internode extends the new service to, although this will be at a later date.
Local number portability was something that customers enquiring about Naked ADSL2+ broadband often asked for according to Phil Dempster, the Internode product manager who said “Being able to keep their existing phone number overcomes a barrier to people adopting Naked ADSL2+.”
He went on to add “We also think it will appeal to NBN customers who are so happy with their fibre-based broadband service that they decide to get rid of the monthly cost of renting a separate telephone line. Another benefit for customers with a ported number is that when moving house, they can now take their telephone number, delivered by an Internode broadband service, to anywhere in their metropolitan area.”
The cost of the number-porting process is currently $29.95 and the initial launch saw metropolitan areas in Sydney, Brisbane, Canberra, Adelaide, Hobart, Perth and Melbourne getting the Internode Number Portability. In these areas the service is currently only available to customers with phone numbers directly from Telstra, although later phases of the rollout will allow everyone to use the service.
