3G Network upgrade and free Facebook from Vodafone Australia

Following a recent announcement that it has upgraded its Australian market coverage and is also now offering users free access to Facebook, Vodafone Australia looks to have stepped up competition in the Australian 3G broadband marketplace.

Access to new 3G services while on the move, which includes email and internet access using either a laptop with Vodafone mobile broadband or a mobile phone, will be available to any customer in a 3G upgraded areas of which Vodafone have advised there are hundreds operational in regional areas throughout the country.

Until the 31st October 2009 Vodafone are offering both existing and new users on contract and prepaid services free and unlimited access to Facebook on their mobile handsets.

These new 3G service can now be enjoy by regional customers of Vodafone at highly competitive prices according to the CEO of Vodafone Hutchison Australia (VHA), Nigel Dews.

The previous 3G coverage on the Vodafone network covered around 80 percent of the country, but now with the recent upgrades it offers coverage to 94 percent of the Australian population with access available as far out as Kununurra in WA, Devonport in Tasmania and Part Douglas in Queensland.

There are currently 18 900MHz mobile handsets available on both contract and prepaid through Vodafone for customers to access the new 3G services from Vodafone in metropolitan and regional areas. The prepaid Nokia 6220 is one example of the handsets available, costing $229 and the Vodafone Flexi Caps is one of the services users can opt for, which costs $29 and includes $300 in total value, providing customers with the freedom to browse the net, download music and games, instant message, text or call using their Flexible Credit.

As well as 3G expansion, EDGE technology is now fully supported on Vodafone’s 2G network following the recent upgrades.
