Optus celebrates 20th anniversary
Some of the big name internet and communications providers in Australia have reached milestone anniversaries over recent years, and just recently one communications and broadband giant, Optus, celebrated its twentieth year in operation.
Most Australians would find it difficult to manage without the services that are provided by the various broadband and communications giants across the nation these days. Some of the companies have been in operation for many years and have celebrated milestone anniversaries over recent years. Most recently, communications and broadband giant Optus celebrated its twentieth year in operation, having started operating on 31st January 1992.
These days, the company provides invaluable service to a huge number of residential and business users, offering mobile and fixed line services to suit all sorts of needs and budgets. The provider now has over nine million mobile customers, over one million fixed line and broadband customers and many business customers that rely on its services.
Optus divisional managing director, Vicki Brady, said that the company had been set up to provide consumers with more choice and that the name had come from the phrase ‘opt for us’. She said: “The Australian mobile market has grown dramatically over the last 20 years. While mobile phones were once a luxury item, today there are almost 25 million mobile handsets in operation, more than one for every Australian.”
Whilst the broadband and communications sector is extremely competitive in Australia, with Optus facing far more competition from rivals, the company is still a very popular provider and a household name across the nation.
