Movie download madness for Telstra BigPond
Communications and broadband giant Telstra has reported record school holiday BigPond movie downloads fuelled by family movies and animated features.
Officials from the communications and broadband giant Telstra have reported that there have been record school holiday BigPond movie downloads over the past couple of weeks, with the huge surge in downloads being driven by family movies and animated feature films. The provider has seen record numbers of movie downloads in a two week period, as parents and children look for affordable means of entertainment.
Telstra’s Executive Director of Media J-B Rousselot said: “We achieved our biggest ever two week school holidays for BigPond Movies with more than 120,000 movies downloaded and had close to 13,000 movie downloads via the T-Box® in one day. More than 1.5 million movies have been downloaded on the Telstra T-Box® over the past year, and we find that school holidays always see a spike as children take control of the remote control.”
The types of movies that are being downloaded during school holidays are a far cry from those that have been proving popular in non-holiday periods. School holiday favourites included Gnomeo and Juliet, Hey Arnold! The Movie, Yogi Bear, Gulliver’s Travels, and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1.
Rousselot said: “The winter school holidays saw a radical change from the previous fortnight when the top movie downloads included The Tourist, Jackass 3.5 and Life as We Know It.” The Harry Potter movie was being downloaded around two and a half times more than when it was first out in April due to the fact that the second part of the movie is coming out.
