Telstra broadband changes lives
Broadband and communications giant Telstra has recently won an award thanks to its Arnhem Land Fibre Project, which is seen to have changed lives for the better.
Then recent Broadband Infovision Awards in Australia saw the communications and broadband giant Telstra win an award for its Arnhem Land Fibre Project. The provider won the ‘Changing Lives’ award at the ceremony, as its project was seen to be changing lives for the better.
Over eight hundred kilometres of fibre optic backbone has been laid as part of the project, and thanks to this and other works that have been carried out a number of communities, including some island communities, have been given access to broadband services.
Telstra’s Network Construction Executive Director John Gibbs said, “While this project is a proven industry favourite in the project management field, this win stands out because the category stresses the positive impacts broadband can have on individuals living in remote communities. I can’t help but think of our network construction fibre crews working on the ground together with traditional owners in 45oC conditions and how they will feel when they hear how the benefits of their labour has been highlighted on the world stage.”
He went on to state: “This life-changing project has only been made possible through the strong relationships between the traditional owners of the land, the Northern Land Council, the Northern Territory Government, Rio Tinto Alcan and Telstra.”
The project, amongst other things, has connected healthcare services to broadband as well as improving broadband access at schools within the areas, providing improved health and educational benefits to those in the areas.
