Younger people use smart phone apps to look cooler
It has been reported that many younger people in Australia are using smart phone apps in a bid to appear cooler, according to research carried out by communications giant Telstra.
Mobile broadband and smart phones have resulted in many people surfing the Internet, downloading apps, and going on social networking sites on a more regular basis. Australian communications giant Telstra has recently carried out research, the results of which have shown that many younger people are using smart phone apps to try and appear cooler and improve their social credibility. The research found that many people aged between eighteen and thirty were using various smart phone apps and social networking to try and look and appear cool rather than for other reasons.
Dubbed Generation Y the younger consumers appear to be lapping up apps for the various smart phones, with almost half of people in this age group admitting to using Facebook Places ‘check in’ to appear more stylish. A third admitted that they used smart phone apps for the iPhone simply because they wanted to look cooler. Telstra Consumer Executive Director, Ms Rebekah O’Flaherty said that many people in this age group as moulding their real life identity through the use of social networking sites on their smart phones.
She said: “Australia’s love affair with social networking continues to strengthen with one in four of our customers regularly using their mobiles to access Facebook. Gen Y is leading the charge and armed with their mobile phones using new technologies and applications to make their mark on the world. ”
