Optus Broadband Review

I signed up for a cable broadband internet plan. At the time I believe it was a 50 GB plan, which was split between peak and off peak times. While the service operated as expected, 25 GB in peak hours was just a little short of what I needed. Here's where Optus' attitude towards their customers comes in. As I don't watch TV I wasn't aware that Optus had released a 150 GB plan for $20 a month less, and Optus sure as hell made no effort to tell me that I was being overcharged for a less capable service. If I hadn't called them, I would be still getting charged this amount to this day. I eventually got the plan changed over, but then a few months later Optus started adding an additional 5% to my bill. It turns out that they just instituted a policy whereby those who don't pay by direct debit (in other words, those who don't like the idea of Optus sucking money directly out of their bank accounts) were getting hit with this new fee. It's worth pointing out that I have had a mobile phone with Optus for around 8 years, and had used their internet service once before. All my bills in 8 years were paid on time, and for this loyalty they were charging me an additional 5%?! The actual Internet connection itself was fine, but I would rather deal with the inconvenience of changing my mobile number and getting reconnected through another ISP than give Optus a single dollar more of my money.

Optus Broadband Review

Customer support in setting up was good. But they lied about the costs. I was charged $156.73 for the $69.90 deal. Will be cancelling tomorrow.
